What is a Portable Air Conditioner?

A portable air conditioner is an air conditioning unit that is mobile, as the name would suggest. Unlike other types of air conditioners, such as window A/Cs and central air conditioning, portable air conditioners do not require permanent installation. They are typically around 28″ to 34″ tall and are on caster wheels so they can be easily moved between rooms.

Like other air conditioners though, portable air conditioners must be vented to work properly. In order to keep a room cool, the portable A/C unit must be able to remove the hot air from the room into another area of the home or outdoors, otherwise the temperature in the room it is trying to cool won’t drop. Portable air conditioners do come with window vent kits that are easily installed in most windows and even some sliding glass doors.

A portable air conditioner is ideal for cooling one room in a home at a time. Since they can easily be moved between rooms, one could move it into the living room during the day and into the bedroom at night so that whichever room is in use benefits from the cool air.
